Michael Barrett Partnership provided full Quantity Surveying services for the refurbishment and expansion of the Adult Emergency Department at Cork University Hospital, delivered within a highly complex live healthcare environment. The project comprised the complete refurbishment of the existing Adult Emergency Department, the construction of an extension to increase capacity, and the transformation of the former Lee Suite Orthopaedic Department into a state-of-the-art Paediatric Emergency Department, including a further courtyard extension.
The works incorporated new procedure rooms, consultancy suites, waiting areas, bespoke furniture, graphics, and a complex mechanical and services installation. Delivered in two phases under a single contract, the existing Adult Emergency Department remained fully operational throughout, with the project also progressing during the COVID-19 pandemic as a critical facility. Michael Barrett Partnership provided cost management across all project stages, from feasibility and design through to tendering, construction, and final account, ensuring robust financial control, effective procurement, and the successful delivery of a high-quality healthcare facility in a challenging and fast-paced environment.
